Default Installing a Steeda Tri-Ax Shifter

Well my mustang had just gone into hibernation in the garage for the winter. But over the winter, I will be doing some mods to keep me busy. So far I have spacers and center caps coming and then I think a CAI or K&N FIPK. I was thinking about picking up a Steeda Tri-Axe also. but I had a few questions about it.

Is it notchy at all? I hear short shifters are very notchy.

Is the throw much shorter?

Also, how hard is it to install? I am a complete newb when it comes to installing car stuff. I just got my car about a month ago and this is the first car I will be doing mods to.

How long will this install take and am I risking anything?

Thanks for any replies

Jmac

As far as the steeda shifter goes I don't know its its notchy, I have a B&M ripper and its nice. The install for shifters is pretty easy, just a few bolts and a rubber boot. You'll have no problem, that was the first thing I did to my car a few years, ago..

The install is easy, just make sure you follow the instructions. Take your time and you will do fine, it was the first mod I did to my car. Before you get the tri ax do a SEARCH here for "MGW". After reading the comments, you may want to look into an MGW shifter before ordering the tri ax.

What would be the difference between MGW and the Tri-Ax?

all short shifters are going to be a little more notchy compared to stock because they are A. shorter and B. dont have all the ghetto rubber which makes the stock one sloppy. I have the tri-ax and it works excellent. used to have a crappy momo shiftknob that ruined the short throw (because the **** was so damn tall) and was noisy, keep the stock **** or similar with the shifter. i put a stock one on and now i love the shifter

It shortens the shifter a lot, not only feels better but also improves appearance in the car for a bonus.

my buddy has an mgw and IMO after using both shifters in each car they are pretty close to the same exact feeling.

It is easy to install, take the **** off. pop the panel off and remove it with the shift boot after disconnecting the lighter outlet, then its 4 bolts and u remove the plate with the boot. then remove that carefully, then remove the 4 bolts in the stock shifter, then you will probably have to hit the base with a hammer softly or do like i did and take some big wide plier and pry up on one side to get the shifter off, mine was really stuck on there. after its off, get some silicone, i used permatex red and put it around the base of the shifter to form a seal to prevent leaakage (I bought mine used from a buddy, dunno if any new ones come with gaskets). then reverse that to put it back together. simple install shouldnt be more than 20-30 min.

The shifters are pretty similar there was an "MGW vs Tri ax" post a couple days ago, do a search for it. Most people like the one they have, however some who have had the tri ax and switched to the MGW say the MGW is way better. Ive never heard it the other way around but they're both good. Either way get a Mach 1 shift **** for it too, makes it feel sooo much better, the stock **** is a piece of ****...

Yeah, and my offer still remains from that previous post. I suggest you get the MGW, but if you want the Tri-Ax and want to save money, give me a PM.

Also, just FYI, the T-5/T-45 MGWs are on backorder from MGW right now until next week. Not really a big deal but I just got a call from them.

I had one on my car. It took me about 20 minutes if that to install it. It is quite notchy and my favorite part about it is the "springloaded never miss 3rd thingamabob"
