CAI vs Silencer Removal and Filter

RE: CAI vs Silencer Removal and Filter
CAI is a waste of money unless you are going for engine dress. Just take the silencer off if you want to feel like you modded your car but its really not going to do anything.

Considering how much CAI can cost compared to the supposed power gains, I would say save your money. Save up your cash and get a blower or nitro... something with proven extreme power gains. In defense of CAI, however, some of them are real pretty and can dress up your engine.

I have a Roush CAI, but I'd highly recommend you just remover the silencer and stick with that. You get nothing out of a proper CAI, the stock setup is a great design to start.
If you want, Ill sell you my CAI for $50 plus your stocker.

RE: CAI vs Silencer Removal and Filter
I have been debating lately whether I want to wait to buy a Cold Air Intake or a K&N FIPK or remove the air silencer and put in a High Flow K&N filter.
How are the gains compared? Is the cold air really worth the extra $100-150 over the filter? The companies tend to claim over 10HP gain but I don't believe these.
Will I feel any difference in the response and power of the car with just the silencer removed and the new filter?
I want to get the most that I can, but I don't want to waste money on something that is going to get me minimal gains over the filter.
Thanks for any responses

I did it today. I put in a K&N High flow and then took the silencer off. The car sounds better and I can hear air sucking in while driving. I feel a small difference in power but nothing to write home about. Some magazine claimed something like 3hp out of the silencer removal with the stock filter.
