Default Staying legal with my exhaust

My new 03 GT is bone stock and I'm ready to have some fun with it. My first two mods will be an intake and exhaust, but I'm not sure where to go with my exhaust. Prices and sound considered I've pretty much settled on the Magnaflow Magnapack system, but I need to make sure I'm in legal bounds - this isn't going to be a track car, and I have to pass Ohio inspections every two years.

I want to upgrade the stock midpipe but I'm not sure if I can do that and stay legal. Can anyone point me to some legal midpipes?

As long as the mid-pipe has cats on it, it will pass emissions in pretty much every state but california. Just don't buy an off-road mid pipe and all will be fine. You'll probably also want to keep the stock exhaust manifolds, or if you do switch them, switch to shorty headers because LT's wont pass emissions in most states.

As long as you still have Cats on your mid pipe you should still be fine. I don't know what they wont pass you for emissions. Its just an extra foot of steel.

You can put your o/r midpipe on there, just switch it out before it's inspection time . Yes changing the stock exhaust period is illegal, but to pass emissions you need shorty headers or stock manifolds, and a midpipe with cats on it. That's it, but like I said - get an O/R midpipe - keep your stock one, and swap it out before you go to emissions

Ok ive got stock manifolds and o/r prochamber w/no cats.I just passed emission test 2 weeks ago here in nj. You dont need cats to pass so long as there not lookin for them. Ive got a set of bassani mid lenghts and x pipes in the garage. But i like the torgue i get from my prochamber and the mids wont fit w/o modifying so im leaving it alone. If you want ill sell you the set cheap bud

I might be interested in that Bassani X-pipe, especially considering I just found out Ohio's E-check no longer applies in my county. PM or email me about it.

Since I have no emissions test to worry about... is there really anything else keeping me from going with an O/R pipe? All of the catted pipes I've found have been waaaay more expensive than the O/R counterparts and price is a factor for me.
