Default Close to deciding on a midpipe

Ok, so I'm getting close to deciding on a midpipe, but I still have few questions. First how loud is an aftermarket catted x-pipe compared to the stock midpipe? Second, how much louder would an O/R pipe be compared to the aftermarket catted pipe? I really want to go with the O/R but I'm still debating on whether or not I want to go illegal. Also, if I had the mil eliminators installed would I be able to just go and get my car inspected with no worries? (BTW I live in NC) Thanks for any replies and help!
