Default engine swap

i have a 97 gt and my engine pretty much fried so what years of mustang engines will fit and if i buy a 97 cobra engine will that fit with out alot of modifications. Take into consideration me and my dad are doing this

i have a 98 gt and i put the pi 4.6 in it.it does not matter if the motor has due overhead cams because the blocks are the same..jus get new motor mounts and it should bolt right in....ask me for anymore questions...i have been through it all...lol

Any mod motor will fit. If you switch to a DOHC, you may have computer problems.

Id go for a Mach 1 Motor and build that up. They are avialbe brand new and cheap from blueovalindustries.com

ANy of the 4.6 SOHC engines will bolt right in. But if you go with a cobra motor DOHC you will need a new wiring harness and new accessories because I dont think that they are in the same spot as the ones you already have so they will not work. I would just get a SOHC out of a 99+ mustang with the PI heads because it is a lot of work for the DOHC swap.

Production 4.6 Romeo block, studded mains, bored and stress-plate honed .020( 3.571)
New factory Cobra steel crank
Eagle H-beam rods with ARP 2000 bolts
Probe 18cc dish forged piston (9.1:1)
Factory P.I. cylinder heads with 44cc chamber
Factory P.I. camshafts 192/184 duration @.050 .535/.505 lift
ARP head stud kit and MLS Fel-Pro head gaskets
Balanced rotating assembly +/- 1 gram

These are the additional parts and services featured on this engine.
Everything else is remanufactured to stock specs (bearing clearances etc…)

I got this motor and installed for 6000.00 plus new motor mounts, water pump, hoses, pi intake, and aluminum flywheel
500 miles latter i blew head gasket and installer fixed it for free(30 day warranty)
I think i got a good deal

Just buy a motor that has the wiring harness and all the accesories on it and the Computer and it will bolt right in.
