Default speedo question...

I have a 2000 GT and I have noticed when I go pass anything that clocks your speed my speedo says I'm going 6-8 mph faster. What could cause this besides gears? I'm the second owner of this car and to my knowledge there is stock gears in it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I just went out and tested it with GPS and the speedo is almost exactly 6 mph faster then what I'm going. I know speedos can't be dead on but I didn't think they were that much off? Is this normal, any ideas?

Thanks....

Does the car by any chance have white faced guages installed?

Tire/wheel size also affects the speedo but I wouldn't think it would be off by that much.

Actually, it had white faced gauges when I bought it. How might that change the speedo and how could I fix it?

Thanks

If you look at the rearend there is a metal tag hanging on it. It should have the nunbers 3L 27 on it. Thats how you know what rear you have.

I have the white face gauges and mine is just right.

Overlays are stupid for this reason...People don't lay them down right or they don't get the needle on right and screw everything up.

The metal tag is still on the rear end, I saw it when I did the exhaust and the seal on it still looks factory. My friend put 3.73's in his 95 GT and the speedo was more then 6 mph off, more like 20 mph off, so I'm thinking it isn't gears.

If they didn't lay them down right or the needle isn't on right what would I need to do to correct it? Pull the cluster apart relay it and put the needle back on?

Thanks for everyones input!

I recently installed white face gauges on my 2000 GT. I left the clear bezel off while having my wife go down the highway with the cruise set at 55 mph. I was off about 5 mph, so I adjusted it and put the bezel back on. Be careful when taking the needle off. It takes a special little tool that came with the kit. I'm sure you can use a small screwdriver with no problem. If you don't think it's had a gear change, then it probably is the gauges. Good luck.

Some people dont know that when you put new gauges on you are suppose to turn the key to the on-run position and mark the guages before you pull any needles off. A lot of people mess it up by doing it all wrong.
