RE: check engine light 443 egr
The EGR is the exhaust gas recirculation system. It reduces oxides of nitrogen emmisions. It should be close to the throttle body. There is a Vacume back pressure transducer that has a back pressure line that goes into the EGR valve itself. The code could be one or all of three things for the most part.
A: Electronis vacume regulating solenoid valve
B:Vacume back pressure transducer
C:The EGR valve itself.
Some cars have a position sensor but Im not sure if the stang has one or not.

You should be able to test it if you have a vacuum pump. Just hook it up to where the vacuum line is on the egr valve while the car is idleing and pump it up a bit. If the car acts like it wants to die then the valve itself is working.
What else does it say for that code? I remember some type of egr code that I used to get out of the Grandemarque and Town cars and we would take the throttle body off and clean out the egr ports. I have never heard of that problem on anything else though.

oh yeah this never started untill the super charger.i notice white smoke come out after i first fire it up. i called vortech and they said to change the factory plugs with denso iridium plugs i did.........13 bucks a pop :...(
i still get the code. i gapped the new plugs @ .032. they told me @ autozone to take off the egr valve and clean it with carb cleaner. i said where is the egr valve and the part time dude said...."i think that is that" anybody gotta a pic? please help. wanting to go the dyno friday. and then leave there to the track : )

There should be two other parts to the system. The EGR control valve is the black one (I think) and there is another one that is a silver rectangle that has either one or two vacuum lines coming off of it depending on what year it is.
I would test the egr valve with a vacuum pump just to be sure. If it checks good I would replace the control valve. *
Disclaimer: I used to work at a Lincoln/Mercury Dealer and only worked on a Mustang a couple of times and I left the dealer in 2000. I hope what I have told you is accurate, but I can't guarantee anything. =]
I would suggest getting a Ford service manual for the future if you plan on keeping the car for awhile. They are very handy.
Good luck and hope I helped.

The flat silver thing with the vacuum line going to it is the egr valve. Take that line off and connect a vacuum pump to it and pump it up a bit. If the car starts to die then the valve is working and it is either the sensor or the solinoid.
I don't know how to test the solinoid or the sensor, we would just replace them if the egr valve was working.
If your sensor is a silver rectangle with the two vacuum lines going to it you can take the lines off and see if the sensor is corroded underneath. I was told that if they are then it will go bad from the moisture being in there. If you have a ford service manual it might have directions on how to test them.
