Ok need some tire advice before tomorrow....
Alright. I had to get some new tires Saturday, so I took it down to my local Firestone where I always have my work done. The guy I deal with has changed stores, but I used em anyways. I opted for Firestone Fuzions since I have ran many of those and had good luck. Plus the price was decent.
Well, the guy told me that since I have 17" Saleen (clone) rims and the front and rear rims were the same, he couldnt mount the right size tire on the rim cause it wouldnt fit. This is what I wound up with. He obviously didnt know that they werent the real Saleen 18" rims because he said Saleens and GT's were set up totally different and you could run a wider tire on the front of those. Same damn wheel wells I thought.
REAR: 275/40/R17
FRONT: 225/45/R17
Well, as you can imagine, the tire looks funky like something off of a early 90's lowrider with a tire too narrow for the rim. Does anyone know what size tire will fit this rim without rubbing? He swears that was it, but I've still got a ton of room up front and if something wider will fit the damn rims, he is gonna have to exchange them for a bigger size. I've gotta take it in anyways because they didnt balance the front properly and now I have a bad vibration about 55mph in the steering wheel.

17X9 I just found out from my cousin. But just in case they happen to be 17x10, would anything bigger still fit? He isnt the most trustworthy source, and I cant find my tape measure to find out. I know the front rims stick out about 1/2 inch past the top part of the fender lip if that makes any difference.

245-265 fit most 9" wide rims...your off by almost a full rim inch...thats real bad dude, i doubt ure on the bead much at all
They wont be 17x10 up front...you have them in the back though, because 275 wont fit on a 9 inch like those do

guys from firestone are f*cking morons, they prolly counter balanced your ****, go to discount tire, have them put new tires on and you keep your old ones as loose, take them back to firestone and get your money back

+1 on discount tire. I went to get a price quote. The guy asked what the best quote I got was. It was 115 per tire, but they couldnt be in for three weeks. He said "I'll sell them to you for 120 per tire (list was 138) and I'll have them in two days." Done and done. No problems with install, free rotations...great company...at least the one I went to.
Anyway, on topic, the oem size for a 17X8 rim is 245/45/r17. Thats what I got, and they look really nice and fit really nice. I dont really see the point of squeezing a tire that is too wide onto a rim.

As far as I know, the widest tire you can put on a 9 inch rim is the 275/40. Wider than that and you may have issues.
That is what I have for my 17X9 cobra rims.
It looks great
