1ST TO 2ND SHIFTING HELP
I have a 03 GT and when I shift from 1st to 2nd gear it will grind from time to time. Usually when I am tring to accelerate quickly but sometimes it will do it even when I am just driving it in the parking lot. I have been told that it's the clutch, the tranny, I've even been told that it's the shifter. I don't know what to think, anyone have any ideas?

Well Im not sure how you have driven you car or maybe a previous owner drove it hard and powershifted maybe. The 3650 tranny has always been known to give us problems, but its worse when you powershift your car if you race alot. Your syncro's could be going out. My shift from 1st to 2nd doest grind but is kinda hard its more or less normal I guess. But you problem sounds like the gear syncro's are starting to go.

Ive got a tr3650 in my car and its been there since they were built. Never had a problem with it at all and i race every weekend. I dont know why these guys say 3650's have problems. I would look at the clutch or t/o bearing before the trani. imo.

I think we have already been through this but there is a TSB on that trans, 04-15-6, if its still covered by the warranty Ford will rebuild the trans with some much better parts. Just in case the tech drives it and trys to say its OK, make sure you tell them it doesn't do it all the time but when it does it grinds going into 2nd AND 3rd and sometimes it jumps out of 2nd, good luck.

my 03 use to do the same, 48000 miles I drained the trans fluid and went to walmart and bought some slick 50 trans treatment and a gallon of trans fluid... the trans holds about 1 1/2 gallons of fluid. After I changed it, It took a couple of days to work in but no more grind for me. Slick 50 trans treatment really works and really surprised me for sure. Give it a try! A cheap improvement.
