I have a 2004 mustang gt 5 speed and I drive city all the time. I only get about 230 KILOMETERS to the tank. My car only has 5600 KILOMETERS on it. But the previous owner I bought it from got into an accident, front bumper and driver side door damage, and is titled as a rebuilt. Does the Car need a tune up or something because i've been reading and a lot of you guys get around 300 MILES to the tank and over. By the way I've never driven it hard yet, I dont shift past 2000 RPM. Thanks

On my old 01 GT when it was new I got around 300 kilos to a tank. After 15,000 kilo's on the odometer i was averaging around 450 kilos per fill up. Shifting under 2000 rpm and lugging the engine might be your problem. Bring it up to 2500 especially between 4th and 5th. You'll probabley notice an increase in fuel mileage after the motor has a few more kilos on it.

I friggn' hate the metric system............................

I agree with GT bob. Why are you shifting at 2k? FYI take it around 5k once a week so you can add some excitment to your life.

my 03 GT gets over 400miles/29 MPG on the hwy and right now has 300 with a little less than a 1/4 in the tank which is all city.I got the 400 last week going/coming home from the casino in Tunica Ms. I have an o/r H pipe, splitfire plugs and my silencer installed on the car. Most of you believe removing it helps but it takes about 3-5 MPG away. And my tires at 40 psi, checked weekly.

If you NEVER shift above 2000 RPM's, you probably have some carbon build-up. Possibly one or more of the plugs is fouled. Solution: place about 2-3 lbs (not kilograms) of lead in your right shoe before you drive. This should cause your foot to depress the accelerator more and increase the RPM's. [sm=gears.gif] While this may seem counter-productive, it succeeds in blowing the carbon out of the engine. Also, you may want to add some fuel system cleaner and/or run a higher grade gasoline.

Seriously though, Have you calculated you actual fuel milage. The reason I ask, Is it possible your gas gauge is wrong?

Really? Has anyone else found this? I removed mine recently. If I'm blowing my mileage, she's going back on. It doesn't get freakishly hot here, so I didn't think there would be any negative change.
