Default Difference between exhaust (not your usual ?)

I just had this random though. What exactly is the difference between say a Magnaflow x-pipe and a Bassani x-pipe? Same question goes for every brand there is. Aren't they all made the same way? Same thing with cat-backs. Is the only thing thats actually expensive the mufflers on just a couple welded SS pipes? Or is there a difference between each brand. If that makes any sense.

I havent seen this one asked before and it randomly hit me on the nogen

i have actually done tons of research on this bc i am looking for a mid pipe. each company claim there pipes are "tuned" better then the other and thats it. this not considering type of metal or coating. that was the same question i asked my self. why should i pay more for Bassani? the name?

Tuned? How the hell do you "tune" a piece of metal?

from what ive read if you stick with the company throughout your entire exhaust its suppose to make more of a difference with sound and perf.

Well I know when it comes to X pipes that each company has a different style X. If you look closely where the pipes meet in the middle you will see differences there.

I just realized that i dont see the point in spending $800 on a mandrel bent catback thats stainless steel when i can buy something exactly like it for $250. Then I can just swap out the mufflers with something else assuming say I swapped for Flowmaster. You would think it would sound about the same as a Flow. catback.

Aww well that makes some sense. Thank god im not really looking for much of a performance factor in.

Exhaust is horribly overpriced.

But tell me, I could use a knowledgeable opinion here, could i just buy a catback thats inexpensive yet still quality stainless steel and buy a set of mufflers to swap? Wouldnt that sound about the same as a catback of those mufflers?

I think the cheapest stainless steal catback you're gonna find is around $430 or so.
