Tires????????/
I had summer tires on my 2004 mustang gt right now and now that winter is coming near I thought I should get all season tires, what all season tires are best for the 2004 mustang? And are there specific tires that work best for the mustang, for a reasonable price? thanks

RE: Tires????????/
The hybrid "all season performance" tires don't do one thing good, they are just mediocre tires. I would get dedicated snow tires for winter and ultra performance ones for summer. I've had good luck w/ Blizzaks before, they're great in the snow, but they wear very easily on dry pavement.

the blizzaks are good tires for winter, but look into the Dunlop M3's they are rated the same but will last a lot longer, for whatever reason they dont wear as much when driven on dry pavement, however you should still only keep them for winter then change to ultra performance tires, I suggest the GSD3's for that, haha........I'll be getting my dunlop M3's soon

RE: Tires????????/
OK, I just finished doing a bunch of snow tire research myself and here is the deal (info from friend at Firestone).
First of all, don't even consider all season tires. They are crap - you sacrifice summer performance and they really don't work that well on a RWD vehicle in snow either. I had all seasons once on my old 95 v6 and they were manageable the first winter when the tread was brand new, but by the next year it was like driving on ice even in 0.5" snow.
Now on to winter tires.
Most snow tires now (at least non studded ones) are split into 2 categories - "studless ice and snow" and "winter performance."
The blizzak WS-50 and the newer Revo 1's are both in the studless ice and snow category. They supposedly provide superior snow and ice traction while you will suffer some in handling on dry roads. Most have a pretty low speed rating which can be used as a good indicator on thier overall handling performance.
The Dunlop M3 is in the "winter perforance" category. These tires still provide good snow/ice/slush traction while not giving up so much in the dry performance dept. These tires will typically have a higher speed rating and come in sizes for larger rims as well.
The verdict?
If you live in an area that sees heavy snow for a good portion of the winter and it stays on the ground most of the time, then get the studless ice and snow. One note though, I don't think that the Revo 1's come in anything larger than a 16" rim. Tread life will suffer if you use tese tires on dry pavement or at temps above 50.
If you live in an area like me (southern WI) where it snows some but irregularily, and the roads are often dry for considerable intervals, then get the Dunlops.
Hope this helps.

RE: Tires????????/
Not to hijack this thread, but I need some new shoes for my mustang ('04 Mustang GT 40th w/ 21,000 miles) as well (came here for a recommendation). I am going to stick with a high-performance summer tire but am unsure if I should buy another set of the OEM Goodyear Gator Backs 245 /45/17. Does anyone have a suggestion on a tire that has served them well? Thanks in advance for your help.

RE: Tires????????/
Anything but the Gatorbacks...
I have Dayton Daytonas and they aren't great at anything, but they did fairly well in the one snow/slush storm we've had this year (no spinning/sliding). They aren't superb, but they are way better than the stock POS's.
