geez according to that if im puttin out 600lb of torgue my 28 spline is ok. Or am readin somthin wrong?

That's what I was thinking. I've been told if oyu put slicks or DR's on there you're going to twist them 28 splines with 500+ hp, since the torque will be high. Now I'm wondering if I should send my moser axles back to American Muscle and sell the brand new Eaton LSD I just bought, lol.

Go over to mach1registry.org and ask the guys about their stock axles. There are quite a few who have snapped and twisted axles with less power than that. The calculator is just a guide really. That also applies to MOSER axles not stock axles, which are made with a weaker steel. I believe the stock axles are also tapered, but im not positive about on that one.

8.8 mustangs dont have spider gears they have a clutch type diff
8.8 trac locks do have spider gears. not to mention that its not the spider gears that you are worried about when you want to change your axles. its the side gears. if you go look at one you can see the side gears splined to the axles. the clutches (which are splined to the side gears and the carrier) are there to combat the side gears from spinning at different speeds. so..... if there is an "install kit", then it would need to include new side gears. and they would have to be identical to the ones that are in there now, besides of course the internal splines for the axles.

I run Moser 28 spline axles and Eaton posi. I had purchased and installed my Eaton when I destroyed my stock posi. Some good 28 spline race axles will be fine if you are not ready to totally change out your carrier. I also use ARP wheel studs and open end lug nuts. You have to be careful running closed lug nuts with slicks. There will be som much heat and tq building up, the lug nuts will actually weld onto the studs and then you will be replacing studs and lug nuts. Just my .02
