DEBATE. BEST suspension set up for an autocross 4.6.
Alright so here's my situation in a nutshell.
Bought a 2001 gt convertible, drove it a 1000 miles (it has 20k on it now) wore out a new set of rear tires. Found out the guy before me jumped the car before he sold it to me. (bent solid rear axle) (I did have a mech check it out before buying it they said it was fine, thanks mustang magic of NY) So now I need a full rear swap and at least a few new parts up front.
So the question is, what should I do for my suspension? I am interested in doing most of the work and would be willing to spring (pun intended) for some upgrades. I've been finding solid rears are almost as expensive as the cobra IRS due to supply and demand. (wanted for better launches I think) Basically I am interested in a car that can handle. (I prefer autocross to the strip.) Any recommendation or suggestions? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
One last thing, anyone know much about lowering kits that are easily adjustable. (or just hydralics, my college has some monster speed bumps that I can't make it over in stock form) Some people have recommended Polyurethane bushings and I'm probably going to setting on a late model IRS. Anyone know much about aftermarket suspension upgrades?

want to go solid, get a watts link and you'll be fine or something like the steeda 5 link
if you go with the IRS...(here's just a taste of what im looking at)...take the frame, hard mount the diffy to the frame, add the diffy brace and cover, aluminum or polyurethane bushings all around, wait for KB to bring the tubular control arms and coil over set up back and throw in a brace here and there and you got a beast...thats what would get my vote
you'll spend a little more on the IRS, i can list the mods for u but it may take a while to list out the mods ($$$ wise) but you get the picture

just curious, how much does the Cobra IRS go for?

It really does depend.. Sometimes, you can go on things like craigslist.com and find someone willing to trade axles for less than $500, but places like ebay, they range from $500 to $2,000. The good news is, they come w/ the updates center section and 3.55 gears, so there's a little less of something you have to modify..

Look into Griggs, just cause it's and IRS does not mean the Cobra has the best suspension, you will want to upgrade tht as well. Besides IRS really shines on un-even surfaces, autocross is done in nice smooth and level parking lots.
