i live in california so i have to have cats to pass emmissions and i am wondering what the penalty is if i am caught with an off road x pipe? and what are the chances of even being caught in the first place?

If you don't street race, very little chance of getting caught. If you do get caught, I've heard it's $1000 for you, and $10,000 for whoever installed it.

I have high-flow Bassani cats (one per side). I think I'm CA legal, but I've also heard that since the original setup is two cats per side, I'm not. If anyone knows for sure, I'd like to know.

im not to sure on that stuff. i have a bassani x-pipe with no cats. and all i have to do is order o2 simulators for $60 and they plug in to your back 2 o2 sensors and make the car pass emissions. as for getting caught racing and getting car reinspected then im screwed.

Have you actually passed a smog test with o2 simulators? I thought there is a visual inspection requirement.

That wont work in California...we actually have the sniffer test here! lol

find a car with the windows down, and steal the inspection sticker ^^

The shop doing my build is smog-certified, although they don't normally do testing. The say they will clear me when it's time (2008).

For cars more than 5 years old, we have to perform a mandatory emission test every 2 years in order to get updated license plates. If you have no cats..or..hole in exhaust..or..smoke from tail pipe, they won't even bother to test you.
