rear end size

RE: rear end size
If you put your best rwhp between 4000-5400rpms.. why would you want to spend more time shifting gears and getting ito 4th gear with 1/2 the race left at 3000rpms... instead of having it balanced to be within that 4000-5400rpm range until the end of the race? That doesn't make any sense. Like I said, with that setup most times cars with LESS hp but better gears for thier setup will lose 1,2,3rd gears, but pass you while your in 4th.
The key to gearing is to stay in your best hp/tor range the longest amount of time. Thats why the say to go 4.10's on a N/A stock car, because you make your best rwhp from that range mentioned most cases, and the 4.10's keep you in that range - but the 4.10s hurt you if you're going through the rpm range to fast, getting into 4th or 5th gear, where you have 1/2 the power as you do in 2nd and 3rd gear.

and btw.. those mods you mentioned does nothing to help get the power from the wheel to the floor. Those are just power adders.

You don't know what that car had... I've driven cars with FI and 4.10's... 9 times out of 10, you will actually go faster with a 3.73 then a 4.10 if you're running a lot of power on these cars - as you get more traction and you stay in the power band more getting more of your peak hp to the floor. That's the bottom line with this. If you have a built up block that is going to spin to 7000+rpms and is a track car, then by all means. The 4.10 is to steep for 95% of the cars on this website with FI. Unless you're running a blower that is putting out 350rwhp.
