Default Long tube headers on a 96GT?

Can you put long tube headers on a 96 GT? If not what would you need to do to put them on? What is the hp difference from long tube to shorty? Sh*t what is the difference between the two?

yes you can, its just not going to be an in-out procedure. there is only a few hp difference, nothing to be really concerned about. The difference between the two is the length of the primaries (the tubes that run from the engine to the mid pipe)...some shorties can reuse stock mid pipe, and all long tube headers will require a special short mid pipe...there is also a sound difference (think of a bad @ss sounding muscle car you've heard before...he probably had long tubes on)...

^^ check that out, thats what it takes to install long tubes on, even though thats a new edge, same procedure

do not get shorties. no hp gain that you can even feel and no sound difference. longtubes or nothing. you pretty much have every longtube header option as you would with 99-04. only thing that would be holding you back is if your an auto or not.

well i dont live in the the perfect world either bud. i pay people to get my car inspected. but since you are smart guy go waste your money on shorties. they give you like crazy hp gains. btw i live in jersey and we have pretty strict emission laws.

That is what I thought but I remmber in high school hearing 'bbk shorties' but using common sense I assumed the long tube would give me a larger performance gain.

Are all 4.6 LT's the same lenth/design? For example, if I were to get LT's now on my '96, and decided to get a new edge motor down the road, will I be able to reuse the headers or not?

As long as you are just changing the motor in your car....you'll be fine, but i think there are some differences in soem applications for SN95 and New Edge
