I'm guessing its just a typo, but the Mark VII had the 302. (I have one with 20,600 original miles ) The Mark VIII has the dohc 4.6. I'm not really sure of the differences. My guess would be that the internals are different. I have a 97 cobra and I absolutly love it. You would probably be better off just getting a cobra. If you get a 6er and drop in a 4.6, the trans wont take the power, the suspension will need work, the rear isnt the 8.8 thats in the cobra, no nice interior, wrong gauges and such,...I'm sure the list goes on and on. And as far as I know (which isnt too far so correct me if I'm wrong) the Lincolns didn't uses the same Italian Teksid block, which is supposedly far supperior to other years' allumunim blocks. For under 10k, you can find pretty nice 96-98 cobras.

I feel you on the money part. I just turned21 and bought my first car (the 97 cobra). I really don't think it would be any cheaper to go the 6er route. Unless you do all the work, you're gonna be paying a shop out your ***. And, you will break components of the 6er if you put a high hp motor it it. The trans and rear end probably wont last too long, and after that goes, you'll be well over the 10 grand for a cobra. I know its hard (It was really hard for me) but I just waited till I had enough and bought a better (in my opinion) car. The cobra, being the higher model, just has more to it. Better looking bumpers, hood, stronger engine, all the fancy crap in the interrior, 8.8 rear, the t-45 sucks though, exhaust, bigger wheels, and the sweet badges, which add 5 hp each.

The cobra is rated at 305. I dont know about the 15 ponies. Probably a different intake, different tuning, i dont know.

The Mark VIII uses the same Teksid block and B heads but has different intake and doesn't have the forged crank. If you look you can find 96-98 GT's for 3-4k with high miles and then add the 4-5k you have left to mod it. 4V's are nice but expensive to mod. You can find a 99-04 PI engine and swap that into a 96-98 then add a MPH Mongoose kit to it for $3800 and have a nice 350-400rwhp car for the 8k. Or if you really look hard you might find a 96-98 Cobra for 8k.
