1998 Mustang GT 4.6 69,000 miles...

Just bought it recently, and have stumbled across a problem. At around 45-50 mph when the RPM's are at around 1 and a half the car acts as if its going to stall out. It likes hops around and like shakes sort of. But if i just get on the gas alot it will jet and be fine but just at that point it does that. Keep in mind its automatic. When its idleing every so often like every 10-20 secs it like hops like its about to stall. I don't know what the hell is wrong with it really. I don't know much about cars at all so any help and or suggestions would be good, thanks.

Also if i put the car in nuetral and rev it up it takes a considerable amount of time for the RPM guage to wind back down to lower speeds. I've drove lots of cars and this one takes twice as long to wind back down, any ideas on that and relationship to the previous questions?

It happens to many of us. Almost half of the people on this site with autos will have the same problem so you shouldnt worry about it. And the RPMs fall slow on every mustang so thats another thing you dont need to worry about.

Dude, it's not mph, it's RPM's that are causing the problem. When you go to add gas/cruise at like 1,250 rpms, it starts to stutter (SEE MY POST)...

The easy fix: When it does it, take O/D off and it will add RPMS and wala! Problem goes away!

it shouldn't stall or studder at any rpm. some thing is wrong and needs to be fixed. droping over drive or reving it up is just covering the problem.

Well, if rpm's fall below idol, I suppose it would spit and sputter, no? Not sure if an automatic would allow the car to rev that low, shouldn't I'd imagine, should shift to regulate the rpm's...I mean, that's gotta be a 1000 or less rpm's...

It doesnt stall though guys, It does a studder or a hop. It sounds like you hit a pothole or something small in the road. It happens at mid/slow speeds when you let off the gas? There have been many threads on this here and it happens to lots of us auto guys. Im not worried about it and it happens to me a lot. 99+ GT's with autos sometimes have problems like these.
