Is it going to be a street car? I mean, if you're swapping engines or even heavily modifying what you've got, good luck getting a state inspection. I know here in NY, anything '96 or newer has to be more-or-less stock to pass, seeing how they hook it up to a computer diagnostic setup, or whatever you want to call it. Not to mention the usual visual inspection...you'll have to find someone to "pass" it for you, haha

whoa, good deal man...no emissions tests, consider yourself lucky, it takes a lot of the fun out of owning a '96 or newer street car here in NY. Yea, I'd say if you got the money, then go crazy! Me personally, I'd stay away from the 4.6 sohc and dohc merely because you're very limited to what you can do internally. I mean, not to bash the 4.6's in the 4.6 forum here, you can get a lot of power out of a 4.6 cobra dohc, so I've heard. I mean, they're 300+ hp stock, that's not shabby for a bone stock engine. But you're limited when it comes to working with the 4.6's. I'd say a 5.0 is the way to go, simply because there are sooo many parts you can find to really build it up. Seems like you can work almost as much horse power as you want out of one of them!
