Default thermostat

I have an 01 gt that is tuned to 93. It said it would work best if it had a 160 or 180 thermostat.I didn't see the 180 in jegs when I was ordering stuff earlier and got the 160. I was reading some stuff in the fourm and it seems like it is a bad idea to use the 160...anyone with any info/experence?

thanks

160 will make your car run to rich. Stick with a 180, and if possible got the FRPP pressure balanced 180 thermostat.

I have a 160* t-stat . my a/f is fine . you will need to adjust high/low fan speed paramitters so it turns on sooner .

I just bought a hypertech 180 from summit racing for $23. I know it aint the cheapest, but cheapest aint always the best. Havent installed it yet but, i heard that 180 was the more popular one, so thats what i went with.

I agree the cheapest isnt always the best, but $23 for a thermostat is getting F***ED. Just get an OEM.

I use a 180 degree stat. The 160 will not let your car get out of warmup mode and it may run rich. I got the 180 for about 10 dollars at autozone. You will also want a new gasket for the switch too.

Go to advance auto parts. Just ask them for what you want.
Stant part number for a 195 degree is 13399 or 45399 for the premium. A 180 part number is 13398 or 45398. A 160 would be 13396 or 45396, however they may not have the 160 in stock.

I work at advance part time while going to school.

Edit: $23 for any thermostat is retarded. Stick with one for $6- 10. Thermostats do one thing, open up at a certain degree, as long as they do that, thats all they need to do. Why pay more, there is no Racing thermostat, or anything like that, only different degree thermostats, quality however, may be different for different grades, but don't be misled.

I dont see why a thermostat would affect the a/f ratio? I wouldnt go any lower than 180

They say if the engine isn't warm enough, there isn't enough heat to make a good combustion, so they say. Also, i've read articles talking about a colder engine doesn't evaporate moisture properly.

Who knows...
