Default mild cams for my 96 gt

I would like to put in a set of mild cams into my 96 gt to give it a nice idle/tone but first i need to find out what size and brand that i need, and also how much it would cost to have it installed. If anyone could give me any advice that would be great.

Well, you can always put a pair of PI improved camshafts on it, thats good for 10-15 rwhp or so, or if you want a slightly more agressive cam, VT stage 1 cams. Don't require changing out springs, but will probably need a tune, would be smart anyway.

Is that true that VT cams won't work on NPI heads?? I've never heard that before. It seems weird, considering how PI cams will work on NPI heads, and VT cams will work with PI heads.

Mufastang - If you can't do the whole PI swap, at least put on a PI intake along with the cams.

The PI cams' will work in the NPI heads.. and vice versa. Ive seen people who wanted to keep the compression low but get better cams in an NPI swap cams but not the heads before...
But having not done it myself, I would just shoot an e-mail to VT and they can answer very easily.. but I dont see why they would work in one but not the other..

You can't use VT cams in NPI heads unless you have the spring perches machined and some offset retainers would help. NPI can't handle the same lift as PI thats why you can't interchange them...The stock PI cams work because they are mild.

A nice set of NPI cams are Crowers.
