Engine Temp in Cold Weather

Engine Temp in Cold Weather
The past few days it has been single digits in northern IL. Yesterday, I noticed my stock temp gauge was registering just inside the normal area of the gauge, the very far left of normal. I had heat but thought it was strange. When tooling around town it would climb a little more but on the open road it was still just barely in normal. I've had the car since last January and I'm sure we had days this cold then but don't remember the temp gauge reading that far left.
Is this normal? Is my t-stat stuck open? Would the cold air (intercooled on top of it) being crammed into the engine by the blower be causing lower operating temps?
I'm sure it's not something major, just a peculiarity I noticed yesterday and today.

RE: Engine Temp in Cold Weather
I live in the quad cities which is on the eastern border of Iowa/ western border of Illinois. My temp gauge is usaully a little past 1/4 in the normal tempature range. If you thermostat was stuck open your gauge wouldnt move millimeter. Do you live near Galena,Illinois? I have some family up there.
