Default Manual driver poll (neutral/brake vs. engine braking)

I'm curious, to all of you who have 5 speed Stangs, if you are coming to a stoplight and say you are in 4th gear, do you rev match down gear by gear until you are at a stop, or do you just go right intro neutral and use the brakes to stop.

Some say going into neutral is better because it's less wear and tear on the clutch/transmission but more stress on the brakes. Then again it's cheaper to replace brakes than the clutch.

Personally if I'm in 4th and I am coming to a stop, I downshift into 3rd and then go into N., so I guess I do somewhat of a combo.

How about you all?

Personally I just throw it in N and start braking slowly. I would rather have to replace the brakes than burn gas and cause more stress on the drivetrain by downshifting all the time.
4-N and brake slowly > 4-3brake alittle-2brake alittle more-1 brake until stopped.

for better gas mileage, it's best to put in nuetral and
use the brakes to slow down. It's been explained before
on this forum and I believe it to be accurate. good
poll tho

well there are alot of hills where i live so it depends on the road i guess. if its just a flat buisy road with a stop light i usualy just pop it in N and use breaks. coming off the highway il usualy use 3rd gear to slow me down along with breaks. keep in mind i dont use engine breaking above 3k rpms. also if i want to go anywhere i have to go down this big steep hill near my house and i usually go in 3rd and minimal breaks to go down that hill. id rather do that than use heavy breaks to keep the car at 40mph.

so i do a little of both, nothing crazy or stupid.

depends on speed and severity of how fast i have to stop.

if im coming up to a stop light at 50+ i put it in 3rd (4.10 gears) and lightly break and at twenty i put it in neutral

sometimes, normally i put it in neutral and plan to just use breaks, then i'll notice speed.

If i know i have to stop (stop sign) then i put her in neutral and coast to a stop.
If i just have to reduce speed with the possibility of not having to stop completely, then i will down shift as my speed drops.
