Might want to take another look at the plugs anyway if you're getting thin on possibilities; not to be drastic, but you could possibly now have some coolant or oil getting into the plugs from a leaky head gasket. I don't know if the '98s run coil-overs or plug wires, but you might want to check out your coils as well.

Obviously, you'd want to start with some of the other stuff these guys listed. Give the fuel filter a quick blow-through to see what you get.

P.S. What do you mean "it was like i had cams"? You mean a carb? Again, another thing you can check after you look at everything else is your idle air control valve.

I believe 30,000 by ford (or as often as every 15,000 will never hurt). If the above suggestions have not worked, then it could be your TPS, MAF, or even really fouled out O2 sensors. I don't know how many miles you have on your car, but I have had a 5.0L and a 4.6L loose vacuum through the brake booster and it caused a very similar problem. Just an idea?
