Default Driveline "clunk" - what's the FIX?

I saw a TSB posted (bulletin # 17510) and they call it driveline clunk. I know that the complete TSB's give a tech approach to solve the clunk but there is no detail to the posting on this site.

Has anyone taken their car to the dealer on this issue and
-was the issue resolved?
-what did they do to stop the clunk?

My car does exactly what they describe in the TSB.

"Driveline clunk during gear changes and/or quick acceleration after coast (tip-in) clunk."

Thanks,
Randy

I dunno about the TSB, but I would think its U-Joints by what you are describing.

What kind of car do you have? I know my Cobra did that, and it ended up being the differential leaking... Ford fixed it, and now the "clunk" is gone. I know it's very common with 03/04 Cobras

Does it sound like it is coming from the rear end? that is what mine does, I always figured it was normal because my dads f-150 which is a 302 5speed also does that. I was thinking maybe it is the throw out bearing but he has a brand new clutch so I dont know for sure if thats it?

Sorry, I thought I hit my signature button. It's an 04 GT automatic.
The sound is definitely not the rear end but rather the tranny or driveshaft/ujoints.
The TSB said it was common in Cobra's as well as regular Mustangs and GTs.
It's worst when I am off the gas coasting and then abruptly get into the throttle.

Does anyone out there have access to the full text on TSBs?

xxkazp3rxx - Do you know what Ford did to your Cobra to fix the differential leak? I can't imagine how a leak could cause a "clunk". . .

Thanks,

Well, when things are lose within the differential they dont 'click' together as easily I guess, sending shimmies through the drivetrain that get amplified causing that... well that's what someone told me - dont know how much smoke they're blowing up my ***.. but i sent it to ford with my issues, and they fixed it by replacing some pinions and some other small parts he said in the rear differential housing - and it's gone... I almost came when I felt how easy it shifted when I got it back...

Sounds like a trip to the dealership is in order. Thanks for the input.

Merry Christmas!

it's mainly your differential you probably were leaking fluid or had little and the bearings wore out and now there is movement so when you shift or go to stop there's a clunking noise.
