Oil Gauge

Oil Gauge
So I'm having a problem with my oil pressure gauge...it's been pretty cold around here lately and every time I turn the car on, the oil gauge reads low for like 5 mins. even after driving...finally when everything warms up really good it moves up to around the middle, 3/4 area. What would be causing this? Is it the sensor messed up b/c I know I have oil in it, I just changed it not 2 long ago.

RE: Oil Gauge
what oil grade are you using? its probably cause of the cold weather. i get a similar prob with the low oil light cluster as soon as i start the engine but when it gets to operating temperature. i turn off the stang, turn it back on and its gone..more than likely cause its freaking cold..the oil doesnt circulate correct and it sends the signal that low oil. dont worry, as long as you have the proper amount you are doing fan. if this keeps happening, check your gauge..cause if it could a minor thing like your gauge, or in worse case, your oil pump.

RE: Oil Gauge
Mine does the same thing when it's cold. Mine's really weird though cuz before it actually stays at normal it'll shoot back and forth from low to normal several times. I've never had any problems with my car and it's done this since i bought it. I wouldn't worry about it. It's just the cold weather. Let it warm for a good 2-3 minutes minimum and you should be good to go.

RE: Oil Gauge
Well you'll definitely hear it if you don't have adequate oil pressure, the engine will make very unhappy sounds. The gauge reads 0 if you have less than 8-9 PSI of oil pressure, and if you have more, it reads a little above half, there is no in between.
On a cold startup, the pressure should be very high, in the 80-90 psi area if I'm not mistaken, when it warms up, it should be 30psi at idle, and 50psi at WOT/heavy load. If you're not getting enough oil pressure when it's cold your pump may be failing, or the sensor could simply be bad.

RE: Oil Gauge
o ok, i figured it might be the sending unit so I might just replace that to be sure and if it's not that o well, at least I'll know when i changed it and if something else ever arises I'll be able to overlook that
