sct tuner question?

sct tuner question?
I just got a sct xcalibrator 2 tuner and every thing works untill it says to turn the key on after i selected the tune. It keeps blinking start key. Then says"power up mes. time out". I did everything the directions said and even had a guy at the local shop look at it for me. Have any of you had that problem or have an idea what it could be.
