I know my car calls for 5w20 but is there really any difference between the 5w20 and 5w30? If so whats the difference?

Its how thin or thick the oil is. A ceratin weight oil is recommended for ceratin vehicles based on engine tolerances. 5w20 is a thinner oil, so that would be used on vehicles with tighter tolerances. Just use the recommended stuff (whats on the oil cap). And if you drive it pretty hard I'd recommend synthetic.

i use 5 w 30 alot and have no problems

I use 5w-30 Amsoil synthetic instead of 5w-20. The major difference will be drag internally, reducing mileage and increasing emissions...probably not so much you'd really notice without instrumentation.

I wouldn't use 5w-30 dino oil, however, even if I would even think about recommending dino oil.
