Default Are the rear sway bars stock?

The rear sway bar on my 98 GT just broke and i was wondering if it came stock on my car, or if someone before me put it on. Also, is it safe, or can it do any damage if i just take it off and drive without one? thanks

They come with them, if its hollow it is stock. You can find a Cobra replacement for under $100 and its solid or buy a new one from MM. You can drive without it.

thanks. I didnt know what the noise was so i brought it to a mechanic in my town. he called me this morning and told me what it was and said he could replace it for $230. i told him just to take it off because i knew that price was way too much. do you think there will be any noticable difference in handling?

I have never had the rear bar off of my GT, but I can speak from the experience with several other cars.

Without the rear sway bar you will experience additional body roll, a slight decrease in overall stability.
Just dont try autocrossing and you should be fine.
