H PIPE OR RADAR

RE: H PIPE OR RADAR
If you already ahve a catback then I'd say the radar detector. You've already got at least somewhat better sound. Sound too good and you'll get targeted and pulled over for having a loud sports car that's going a little fast.

mines pretty dependable... only thing you gotta watch out for is LASER if you get hit with laser all of radar detectors wont pick it up until after you have been hit. 90% of them wont even beep if you did get hit.

Oh, I didn't pay attention to which radar detector he said. I have the Bel Pro RX65 and I love it. I don't usually drive stupid, but it's nice to know when a cop is around because everyone has fun sometimes, or even something as small as gunning it and taking a quick turn. I wouldn't wanna do that around a cop if I KNOW one is there. I figure that if it saves me a ticket or two then it's paid off so it's worth it to me.
Well, Laser is different, radar is a wide signal that blankets the area that is being scanned, focusing on one more localized spot to return the speed. Laser is a direct beam, so if your detector goes off, the cop was pointing DIRECTLY AT YOU. Lasers don't scan like radars do though, lasers are typically found in speed traps and places like school zones. They are less common and wont be from a cop driving down the road with you. Since it's directly hitting you, you don't have a chance to be warned. It's possible to make radar the same, but since it's wide, it'll set off radars all around when it is turned on. That's called POP though, sending quick bursts from a radar so there isn't the warning of typically scanning. POP however is not that accurate and is typically fired to get an approximation of speed, then the cop will switch to a standard radar and get your speed for sure.
So all that said, laser detection is basically useless. Once it detects it, you're already hit and they have your speed. There's no slowing down. So unless you're jamming the laser (which is illegal in many states, and expensive on top of that), then there's really not all that much point in laser detection. The V1 is superior to the RX65 in laser detection, but since that's not much help, it makes the V1 argument pretty much void. The RX65 is better at regular X/K/Ka (and Ku for Euro) band radar scanning, making it a better radar detector for most people.
