ORIGINAL: Colorado_Mustang

The switch to FWD for the Mustang was attempted for the '87 model year, which ultimately resulted in the Probe. The '94 was never under fire as the enthusiasts had already spoken by that time. And, Ford led out with a much better concept with the Mach III.
Alright, I stand corrected. Sorry, I don't know a lot about Probes, but I did know for a fact that the 94 Mustang had to undergrow a redesign with a very very limited budget. Ford was not going to gamble on a redesign unless it had a budget of under 800 million, it usually takes about 2 billion even at that time for a redesign. Straight from an AutoWorld Special Edition, 40th anniversary Mustang Magazine.

I looked up '87 in the same magazine. They said that 87 was probably the biggest visual statement since the 69 mach one. Several factors affected wanting to go FWD, and plans were made for the Mustang to go FWD as an 89 model.
