Default Potential GT buyer with some questions...

I am new to Mustangs. In the past I have always owned imported cars and now I am ready to try a V8 out. I have been looking at Mustangs and C5's and it seems that parts are alot cheaper for Mustangs and are widely accessible. What i am wondering is this:

What kind of 1/4 times could I get with a stock GT and adding a free flowing exhaust, different gears in the rear, and a supercharger? What brands do you reccomend and what prices does everything normally run? Thanks!

David

Gears: Use OEM Ford Racing 3.73 or 4.10 if you wont be on the highway much. http://www.drivetrainsuperstores.com has Low prices.

Exhaust: Most people here like BBK, Magnaflow, or SLP. http://www.completeexhust.com, has good prices on headers, cat-backs, and so forth.

Supercharger: Dont have one but most people seem to go with Vortech. I have seen them for $2500 on ebay, $3000-$3500 most other places.

quarter mile: Well if you can hook up all that power with slicks, with a GT, my guess would be mid to low 12's with a 5spd, auto a little slower. Just look at a few of the guys profiles on here and find one with similar mods that you are looking to do and PM him. Good Luck!

Yep what he said. I actually found that the exhaust I like the best is flowmaster it just sounds great. If your gonna supercharge it look for times close to the cobra. Good luck.

Well i didn't think of this before, but I will be doing some highway driving and even some road trips, so what gear selection would be sufficient or could I somehow keep the stock gearing and make a good 1/4 time with the other mods?

If you're doing a S/C, don't do 4.10's, do 3.73's.

With the mods listed and the S/C added, you'll be in the high 12's.

The aftermarket is VERY supportive of our cars. You can buy every part from bumper to bumper.>volume =<expense.

Hey, I was also looking into gearing myself, and many told me to go with 3.73's or 3.90's even to really give the car some pull. But for an everyday all around car, which my GT serves for me, to keep decent gas milage, 3.55's are a good way to go from what I've gathered. They'll be a large improvement over stock, while retaining respectable milage. Now, you'll want to double check what rearend is in your car, as far as stock from Ford. I know my '96 came with 2.73's so 3.55's would make a big difference for me. If yours came with 3.27's for example and you're looking for a noticable change, 3.55's probably won't do much for you...anyhow, maybe this helps a little. You just want to be sure you find out what exactly you want the first time around, haha rather than having them swapped again later on. As far as brands, I'd go with Ford racing parts myself...
