Default Fan?;battery?;short? problem

For the past two weeks my car has been running hotter than usual. It started on the way to kemha boardwalk. I was at a red light and noticed my car was at the M mark on NORMAL so i pulled over to let it cool off. I shut it off and about 30 minutes later after coming out of Walmart I started it back up. I opened my soda and noticed it had started raising up again. I drove on down the road and it started to cool down. No more problems when driving on the highway. But everytime i stop and idle a bit it raises up. I checked under my hood the other day and checked my fan. It was running at first but after a few minutes it cut off. I reved it up a bit and turned the airconditioner on... nothing... So after about an hour of nothing i quit. Now i thought the fan turned on a bit in an hour of running and revving. It got up there again and i cut it off. Well now after installing my radio it seems like its trying to start up but sitting in my car it just surges my power... my battery meter cuts down and my lights dim. My Pedals (LEDs) surge a bit too now and then cut off, although they act like theyre trying to get some power every now and then. Can anyone help me. Could it be my battery or a short? Ive had to jump start my car a while back 2 times the other night my battery died cuz i had the door open while messing with my radio. Its been fine untill i started it up today tho. So does anyone know what my problem is?
