whats the biggest size tire can i put on a 17x8 bullit rim without any rubbing and problems? i researched this and came up with 275/40/r17 is this correct? or will i run into fitment issues?

Not on a 17x8. I had 10.5 inch wide bullits with 295's on my old 94 GT and didn't have any problem. However, I had turndowns right after my mufflers.

You can fit those tires just fine, Best size would be just sticking with the 245/45 series and getting some 315's for the rear, it'll make the rears stand out more.

By "not on a 17x8" i meant you won't have any fitment issues. I agree on the stock size up front and fat meats out back.

thanks guys, i already have 4 17x8 black bullits, and i just bought a 2002 gt and want to buy 2 17x10.5 out back with 315 tires.. just wondering what i should do with the front.... stay with the 17x8 and put275's or stick with the 245? or buy 17x9rims and put the bigger tires on them?

If you've already got the 17x8's just keep those with either the 245's or the 275's (you're choice) and get the two DD bullits for the back with 315's. No need to go to a 17x9 in my opinion for the front.

you can fit a 255 on the 17x8 rims, I did it on my old rims and they fit fine. Don't think I could have gone any wider on the 17x8 without looking funny though.
