Default god awful noise

so maybe 10 min ago on my way home my car starts to make an annoying and disturbing grinding/whining sound. my gt is an auto and im no mechanic butwhat im thinking is its something tranny related cuz i only hear the noise when the car is in gear not in park or neutral. whenever i step on the gas, even the slightest bit, the noise gets louder. it only makes the noise in lower rpms id say up to around 3000 or 3500 ish maybe less.. i checked my fluids and evertyhihng seems to be alright. when i look under the hood and underneath the car theres nothing i can noticably see as being wrong. if anybody has any clues as to what thismight be PLEASE let me know. and if it even matters the car is still under warranty. thanks in advance to all replies.

Does your car shake when you are driving it? If so it might be the u-joints on the drive shaft. When those go the car shakes really bad and makes an awful sound.

Just had something similar. Turned out to be pilot & throw out bearings. Was covered under warranty. They replaced bearings, fork & some other stuff while they had tranny out. Take it to dealer.

well, that sounds a lot like the problem i had on my honda.

im not sure how the exhaust is set up on mustangs, but my car would have a really loud grinding sound whenever i would hit the gas, and sometimes in neutral too. The problem with my car was a heat shield on the exhaust, where the metal had rusted around the bolts and therefore would just vibrate like crazy against the pipes. there were 2 pieces to it, one on top and one on bottom. it doesnt really do anything people told me, so i just ripped the sucker off and boom no more noise. then again you have an 03 while i had a 98. so im not sure if it rusted that quickly. good luck
