Maybe a lash adjuster. Can you pinpoint the noise?

Personally, I'd check to see if you had enough oil...

Normally, a ticking at idle, but goes away when you accelerate, means you have insufficient oil pressure, or as 04BlueGT stated, a HLA may be sticking, or going bad.. I figure, check your oil first, and then check your HLA's, THEN I'd start looking at things other than the top end of your engine..

The noise is definetly coming from the front of the engine sounds external but I am not 100% sure. I had the oil changed 2k ago I guess they could have f-d up and not put enough in there. I thought that it was odd that it started when it got cold. I have a K&N Intake on there and there is a little box between one of the lines coming from the intake to the TB and there is electrical tape on the vacume line. SO that may be the searching idle. WHat does the black box do?

Damn man, I hate to think it, but was it ever low on oil?? I had a 3000gt that got low on oil and started doing that, exactly like yours, in the cold and all. Main bearing was my problem. If it makes you feel better, mine stopped when it got hot outside again. I think the cold makes the oil thicker and doesnt get between the bearings as quick as it should. Sucks man, hope its not the same problem I had.

Man I hate to say it but you got spun bearings. What you described is exactly what my car was doing. But look on the bright side now I have a 5.1L.

Get some mechanics ears or use a long screw driver, start poking around the engine and put it to your ear and try to pinpoint the noise.

Son of a Mother.. I am going to take it to the Stealership.. It hasn't run low on oil in my possession but it is a used car. Spun Bearing huh. That is uppsetting. I have a 4.6L out of a 2001 Police Interceptor w/ olny 1001 miles on it (car was rolled) I may need to set some time aside to swap these out.. Damnit. I really didn'tneed this right now..

Put some motor honey in it and drive it till it stops since you hava another motor to put in. You arent stranded here, I've seen cars run for months with a bad bearing. If you dont plan on using the block or crank or rods again, just drive it till it quits.
