Default Is this a normal ??

I went to look at my suspension and noticed the bottom of my differential housing / driveshaft joint had some fluid on it... a Class I leak...



you can see it as the wet part :P

yeah i think the seal on the input shaft of the diff is bad. perfect time to rebuild it or add some gears if you dont already have them

How much does a input seal and install kit usually run?
Should a "weekend" mechanic be able to do it? as long as I dont need to mess with the shim'd gears.... :-/

The bad news is, there are a few things behind that seal, that make it a real bitch to do, such as the pinion gear, crush washers, pinion nut, and shims...

I'm pretty sure that all of that stuff needs to come out when you replace the seal...

boyo boy i think you done sprung a leak there bro and yea the seal is relatively in expensive but you must take the whole case out lsd(ifyou have one ) ring gear pinion shims pinion bolt crush sleve you will need one and you will need a special tool to get it tight enough so heres some good advise get some one to do it for you unless you have alot of experience with rear ends

Sorry to jack the tread but i was under my car today looking at about thesame thing and that big metal block thing in the picture on the right. What is it? I looked like it was just slapped on there to do nothing. anyone have a clue, i remember something about a counter weight but....idk
