Default Air bags?

I got rear ended today at about 5 mph while sitting in traffic at the front of the pack at a light. I loked at my bumper and there is no damage (the car is dirty in the rear end but I could hardly tell where I got hit)

No, my airbag didn't go off, but I'm very curious....will it ever go off? Hopefully, not at an inconvenient time (while cruising down the highway at 70+ mph, or when I don't need it to go off for that matter)

I just don't want to be driving with my hand on the top of the wheel and then, POOF my arm is broken or something.

Thanks for any replies.

I always heard they only employ on 25mph+ front impact collisions

You should talk to djb1187. His airbags "farted out" at like 5mph and he just drive over a pothole. Then again, his might of been defective.

I was reading that whole thread...that sounds ****ty that the ford dealer was like "what?" and didn't really want to cooperate.

Just my main concern is that I don't want them to deploy while I'm driving (and not in an accident but just cruisin) beacuse I don't know if that little bump may have mashed the sensors, causing a delay in action. Regardless, I wanna have a nice chit-chat with the dumbass that caused this...I'll be lookin for a black 300C w/ tinted windows [:@]

I think you'll be fine. I got rear-ended last year by a guy going 35-40, and that impact pushed me into the car in front of me at the light, kinda squishing my car in between the 2, and no air bags. Mine was totalled, but if that air bags didn't go off after a hit like mine, they won't in yours unless something is SERIOUSLY defective to begin with.

its not really based on how fast you are going but the force applied where the sensors are located which usually means a hit from the front. if you got rearended at 5mph, not that much force was applied. sure it may have rocked you in your seat but nothing major

Your good...i was hitlightly by a car a few years ago @ 15mph and mine didn't deploy. I had them checked after and they were good. Be lucky they didn't come out...they aren't cheap to replace.
