Tire & Wheel Question

Tire & Wheel Question
I'll try my question here; I can't get a reply on MustangForum.net. Here it is:
I have 9" Cobra wheel on my '00GT with the stock 245/45/17 Goodyears. My car is lowered with Eibach Pro-Kit springs. I would like to get Khumo Ecsta Supra 712 275/40/17's, but the guy at the tire store said that the front tires would scrub when turned sharply. The 275/40's are about 1-1/2" wider, so I'm thinking that it may be true. I really want some wider tires to protect the wheels from curb rash. So what if they scrub a bit when pulling into a parking space. Does anyone have a similar set-up, and is it a problem?

RE: Tire & Wheel Question
I know a couple of people with 275's in the front and they only rub at full lock. It does'nt bother them at all. If you don't mind putting up with that occasional rub, I don't think they have had any complaints other than that.

RE: Tire & Wheel Question
Re: The stagger suggestion -- I really want to be able to rotate the tires, and if they're directional, I'd be stuck with them forever in the same location.
RE; The 315s suggestion -- 315's on the back would be great; but again, unrotatable if directional.
I'll post later with an update on how the new tires are doing.

i have the exact kit you are talking about the rubbing isn't a big deal but u will have to get caster/camber plates the lowering kit will wear the tires in a 3rd of their life trust me u will need them to set the proper angle back as far as the khumos good tire for the money

RE: Tire & Wheel Question
Update on my tire/wheel question:
I went ahead with the 275/40/17's, and they work fine. They may scrub slightly, but it's not noticable and certainly not a problem. The extra tire width looks really good, and they protect the sides of the wheels from curb rash. I ended up buying Hankook Ventus II tires. At $80-some apiece, the price was right. That's three tires for the price of one Michelin Pilot!!! My only complaint is that they get a flat spot as the car sits when it's cold. There's a slight vibration until the car warms up.

Dude, if you have Cobra 9"s then I would get a 315 tire. Those are a beast! LOL
