Default Why does 2000 v6 camaro auto seem faster off the line?

Hello everyone! I just wanted to know that it seems that my former 2000 v6 camaro was faster off the line. It did have that y87 package on it. I'm not exactly sure what that does for its perfomance. Don't get me wrong my new 04 mustang gt is much faster in the mid to high end, yet the little 3800 series engine in that camaro had a little pep to it. Did that y87 package deal give it better gearing compared to basic v6 camaro coupes? Yeah, I converted over to the Stang side, but still love those z28 and ss camaros. Just wanted your opinions on that y87 deal.

Oh, I'm not disappointed at all , and I love the new mustang. But do know if that y87 package deal has anything with the camaro's gearing? Maybe it's just the fact I'm getting use to the Mustang and it's my first v8.

Its like when people "feel" the difference between a 2 and a 4v - they all think the 2v has more low end torque, even though they dont. They just dont feel the max amt of the 4v power until later - so it doesnt "feel" right...

You're making more power with your Mustang at any RPM level then you were with the Camaro, it just doesn't feel that way because you have much more power, and while you were getting 100% power with the Camaro really early... its more spreadout with the GT... but you're still making more power... does that make sense?

and im sure the package had something changed.. Seems that most of the Fbody packages changes gearing...

Yeah, thanks for the input on that subject. All my friends are giving me a lot of crap for buying a Ford, they're all f-body fanatics who worship the ls1. They callme a sell out, but they're just jealous in my opinion. Some have z28 and ssand some don't. But the ones with the v6s say that firebird and camaro v6s can keep up and beat most Mustang gts between 93-98. Is that true?

no.. they can barely beat the 3.8Mustang V6's - if they can beat em at all...If they're modded they probably can as the 94-98 Mustang GT's were pretty sluggish...

I have no idea why a v6 F Body would feel quicker than a GT at any part of the power band, except in park maybe.

Was the Camaro a auto and your GT a stick? maybe you're yet to master the 'driver mod'..?

F-body's squat good from a light stock, V8 or V6. It's just a butt-dyno illusion.

Not nearly. Im jealous of my dad and quite a few others. He has a 99 TA WS6 unmodded. That LS1 whoops my car everytime. same thing with a slightly modded base TA around here. But the V6 camaro i have raced was smoked and then the guy dropped the SS engine in it a couple of months later to still get beat, not smoked tho. I was in my dads car in Nov. and witnessed first hand that a new edge Cobra fell to theTA. Im a Stang lover no doubt. But i hate ford >/ this is the only product ill drive of theirs till my dying day. Sposedly im going to get rid of 91 Jimmy st and get a pontiac 02 GA GT and enter into the V6 ring. Theres not many people around here that like to race V8s including the local V8 community.

The camaro was a auto v6 with y87 package. Whatever the package does? Only mods were cai, whisper lid, and flowmaster exhaust. My new 04 stang is auto and it's new as I'm to this forum. Yeah, it's my first mustang and first v8 so I'm new to driving it. But for some reason that little v6 had some power off the line. I'm really liking the stang though it has more power throughout the powerband and it's way more comfortable. Plus, that mach audio system is way better than that crappy Monsoon system the Camaro had.
