Of course everyone will say the SVT cobra first which is the fastest. But the GT is cheap and is very very easy to modify anyway you would like it. The major differance is the engine which is a DOHC 32v V8 when the GT is a SOHC 16v V8. The Mach 1 is also a DOHC 32v V8. I do not know how easy a Mach is to mod but I would go for the cobra if you want fast and easy to mod. Also I would probally buy it used no sense loosing so much money just because it is new. I also almost walked out with a cobra but both times i went to the dealership the person before me bought it. Oh well. Good luck I am sure you will be happy with any mustang that you decide on.

if I could do it again I'd do a Mach 1 or a blown Cobra, but no one crashes them and that's how I buy my cars.

I'd go Mach1, Cobra, Roush, Saleen, then 99+4.6.

Mach1 = 4V FUN w/sold rear axle

Cobra = 4V FUN w/forged internals, blower, & IRS[&:][:'(][]. W/out the blower, the Cobra is just a typical heavy slow Cobra

Roush = looks more aggressive than the Saleen, & my personal pick of the two

Saleen = too flashy, & more expensive than the Roush

99+4.6's = very good BASE cars to modify in just about anyway to make it yours for a lot cheaper than you think.

Just my $.02

Hey!

Come on now, I never thought the typical Cobra was slow. Maybe heavy, but not slow.

Mach 1's arent just regular 4.6L DOHC's either. The Machs are hopped up DOHC's. Im not sure whats differnt about them, all I know is that they are putting out a little higher numbers. Machs definatly kick ***. If you S/C a Mach1, Im sure the 03-04 Cobras will be runnin for cover!

Didn't mean to hurt your feelings Todd[8D]. But I know that a stock 99+ modular will leave stock turd Cobra in the dust, & a decently modded one will have the 99+01 Cobra sweating. The '03, & '04s are a different story, but they have a little something extra. My GT has pulled a couple fangs already

You didn't hurt my feelings.. J/K

I have seen where jdaniel and a couple of others on here have GT's that were more than decently modded, and they dyno'd around the 275/320 level.

Now I have never seen a stock 99/01 Cobra dyno number, but I have seen one with just a cat-back and it put down about 290.

I know, I know, dyno's don't mean much. But you made the comment about typical Cobra's. But I think that's a pretty good number for a typical slow Cobra.

About pulling fangs, maybe your just a better driver.

If you have the money for a Cobra, but can't find one get a used GT. With the money you save buy a built long block with a comp. ratio of about 8.5:1 and put a blower or turbo on it and boost the hell out of it.

But if it were me and I could afford it I would drive pretty far to get a Cobra.

I can't afford it though so I will stick to my slow *** 2.3L '96 Ranger

I drove a slow as$ 91 Ranger for longer than I can remember.

I could leave work and not reach posted Interstate speeds for a couple of miles.

But once I got up to speed, I wasn't stopping for anything.
