exhaust has restricted flow and car runs a lttle sluggish?
I recently purchased a 2004 grey mustang gt with 33 thousand miles on it and I love it.I hated the quiet exhaust sound, so I had Flowmaster 40 series mufflers installed on it. It sounds better, but when you pump the gas it has a real restricted type of feeling and restricted type of noise. Fellow stang owners on this forum tell me it's the stock midpipe with the 4 catalytic converters. Will a aftermarket h or x midpipe resolve this issue? Because the car ran smoother with the original exhaust, but sounded too quiet. Now the car sounds better, but exhaust feels and sounds restricted. I can't afford a full catback system right now, so will the aftermarketh or x mid pipe do? I'm going to need midpipe that passes emissions though, because here in Louisiana emission's inspection are pretty strict.

I didn't have that problem on mine except when I bought my off-road x-pipe I bolted it up to the stock cat back until I could get a new catback put on. I had a 40 series flowmaster catback mad for my car by a buddy because at the time I didn't have the money for a full aftermarket system. I don't know what could be causing the sluggish feelingother than the restrictive factory exhaust plumbing. You can get an x or h pipe with high flow cats from just about any performance parts vendor (check links on home page of forums) or you can get one off of ebay. Grab you a catted mid pipe and see if that doesn't resolve your issue. Mine didn't feel any more sluggish than it did stock after I put my x pipe on.

an aftermarket midpipe will pass emissions if you get a catted one. Also, I think that you only have 2 cats right now.

Your flowmasters are not restricting your flow any more (or any less probably) than the stockers.
Its just what it sounds like, not whats really happening.
A midpipe will definatly free up some power (but not alot) and sound much more agressive, but its not going to make a massive difference either way.

What I don't understand it that when I had the stock exhaust the can ran smoother and the exhaust didn't feel restricted? After I got the Flowmaster 40 series mufflers installed on th stock exhaust it sounds good, but feels and sounds restricted.

They put your exhaust on backwards...j/k.. Mine didn't seem that way when I put mine on. So you are saying the car feels slower or just seem like it take longer to rev?
