Default Would a set of muffs be just as good as a catback?

Since stock piping is 2.25 and most catbacks are 2.5, then would a set of good mufflers be just as good as a bigger piping catback with the same mufflers?

I would say yes, bc a pipe is only going to flow as much as its smallest diameter... I have im welded on much cheaper .. sounds great, I dont know the reasoning behind it not being as good, not saying anything definitive here, please correct me if im wrong

Yeah but don't you think chambered mufflers are more restrictive than a 1/4 smaller piping? From what I've read, chambered muffs redirect the exhaust 360 degrees before exiting the muffler.

Well since YOU brought up exhaust flow restriction, I brought mufflers up because it seems more restrictive than a drop from 2.5" to 2.25" piping.

Is there much of a noise difference between 2.5" and 3" pipes on cat back systems?

You DON'T want a 3" exhaust on a 4.6 engine, unless for some weird reason you're running a SINGLE exhaust or your engine is F/I
