02 gt to cobra conversion
Hey all, this is my first post. I recently bought a beautiful black 02 mustang gt convertible. I did a search but wasnt able to find outif it possible and financialy reasonable to convert this car into a cobra? Is there any major fabrication that needs to be done? I think that the 4.6 is awesome, but I also like to go fast and have to tinker with things. Would I be better off just sticking to the 4.6? Also what are the differances between the gt and cobra? Thanks for the help.

RE: 02 gt to cobra conversion
The Cobra is also a 4.6 but is a DOHC (dual overhead cam) instead of a SOHC (single) The swap isn't as easy as the 5.0 GT to Cobra swap where you just swapped the heads and intake...with the 4.6 you have to also swap over all the timing equipment/cover/alt and i believe you will also need the Cobra ECU to control the IMRC's...It would probably be cheaper to find a complete Cobra engine and swap it.
Now if it were me i would just slap a Supercharger on your GT and have fun.

Welcome to the forums!.... Well you can do that and spend around 15 grand converting and doing a whole bunch of crazy stuff....
Or be like me and do a "Project Bumboclaat" only you cant call it project bumboclaat... Project Pissed off 2v or something.... Alot of people under estimate the power potential of the 2v motor. But yea.... Slap a supercharger, bottom end, slight suspension..... your good! Until the horsepower bug bites you again and you'll eventually want more. Happens to the best of us.... I'm wondering how long over 500 ponies will last for me before I get hungry for more.

Welcome to the forums -- on top of the stuff listed above, you'll need the wiring harness -- the GT wiring harness won't handle the Cobra ECU or sensor net.
Mylongvictor has the right idea -- go forged, drop your compression, slap a supercharger on that puppy add a spritz of nitrous (2-stage, go hog wild) and you'll be happy for quite a while to come. You can get quite a few ponies out of the 2V -- assuming you change the heads from the stock to something like the Patriot stage 2 or 3.

Or you could get a Mach 1, forge the internals, and blow/spray it. I'm thinking about doing that. I like the Mach I look a lot, and figure I can put the blow I want on it, as opposed to the stock 03/04 cobra blower.
