Default running rich with bolt ons?

I talked to a guy with an 03 Cobra the other day and he advised me to get a tune. I get ridiculously ****ty gas mileage and he says I could fix it with a tune from a shop. He says I could be running rich cuz of my bolt ons. If I got my A/F fixed would that help a LOT, or not very much?

(also a n/a tune is like 500 bucks at the shop I'm near....(i think that includes the SCT tuner, but I'm not positive...still kinda crazy imo)

You have 20% in fuel trims in closed loop. It's hard to run outside of the correction values with bolt ons. With the cold air kit you have it will run rich under WOT because of the bend in front of the meter. Put your stock air box back in and enjoy the ride.

i agree bolt on's should not require a tune....do you have any ses lights on or any other noticeable probs, how are your driving habits etc?

I'm even less modded than he is (check the sig), but after changing the exhaust I'm running extremely rich. I know that what caused it for me is changing the mid pipe. I think I may be a LITTLE bit better now that I have MIL eliminators in and a computer reset, and maybe it needs to settle in with new values after the change or something, but yeah, I used a quarter of a tank at least going one way to the hockey game the other day where it usually doesnt even take a quarter of a tank for theentire trip.

I've been looking into going to get a tune as well, however I've been debating actually going to get a real dyno tune, or just buying a tuner. I don't have that much done to my car, so it's not too unique, so I figure they can probably send me a tune from the database that just about fits my car perfect making a real dyno tune unnecessary.

you might run a tad richer but not too much to need a tune as far as i see.

I was running rich with boltons, like the above poster said, your in closed loop while not at WOT so it should be ok.

Define "really bad" fuel milage.
