EXHAUST QUESTION: STOCK H-PIPE VS. OFFROAD X-PIPE....
 

Ok, I swapped my stock h-pipe for a catted x-pipe. I then swapped the catted x-pipe for an offroad x-pipe. It seems that the car isn't pulling like it used to after I put the o/r x-pipe on.

If I change my offroad x-pipe back to my stock h-pipe, will I get more torque?

Right now as the Stang sits, it has JBA shorty headers, bassani offroad x-pipe, and a Borla cat-back exhaust. The Borla cat-back is the same one off of the 1999 Saleen S-351, with straight through mufflers.

So right now it feels like I have no back pressure.......is the car exhaling too much? Should I put back the stock h-pipe to try and get the torque that I lost back when I installed the headers and o/r x-pipe?

Just curious.

As long as you don't have any massive leaks, you didn't lose any HP/TQ.

When you work with your exhaust, while you help with your low RPM torque - you are really making the big HP/TQ difference higher in the powerband. This will give your butt-dyno the illusion that the car actually feels slower than before.

Ok, so I should just stick with the set-up i got? I was thinking about swapping my Borla cat-back, which has straight through mufflers, with maybe a chamber muffler set-up, should that help back pressure, and therefore produce more torque?

No. You don't have any issues with backpressure unless you are running manifolds/headers with no exhaust bolted to them.

Forget anything and everything you've heard or been told about backpressure.

Your current setup is just fine, you left some HP on the table by not going with Long Tubes.

Ah, Ok. I got a smokin deal on Shorties, and I already had my x-pipe so I didn't want to have to buy another x-pipe. It was enough of a pain in the *ss to do the shorties, Long tubes would have sucked royally for installation!

Doing exhaust work on these new Stangs is such a pain. Its not like my old 69 Stang, where I could swap headers in an hour! On the my old 69, I had long tube Hooker Comps with 40 series Flows, and MAN!! That car sounded beautiful!
