Default Used Steeda shifter, what should I do before install?

I know I have to put some RTV on the bottom of the base but I was wondering if I should lube up the area where the handle goes into the base? It's greasy and dirty there, what else should I check or do before I install it?

Lube it up a bit after you clean it

Make sure the car is in neutral when you pull the stock shifter out.

AFIK that area of the shifter goes into is a window into the transmission.

You can even fill the transmission from there while you have it off.

If you have dirt in there you have big problems.

Also look into cobra bob's gaskets. I did not use RTV.

Good luck....
