Its definitely not rear end gear whine, i meant my tranny gears. It doesn't whirl and whine when I downshift into second and my rpm's go up to like 3k. But when they went way higher like 4500 it was a VERY loud whine. I do have an aftermarket handle, but the previous owner said the shifter base was stock.
