RE: Catted X-pipe or O/R with flowmasters40?
Man let me add something to this.
I just put on a set of Super 40 series american thunder cat back on my 2004.
It kicked *** with the stock cats the sound and feel kicked ***.
I then put on a BBK X-pipe no cats.. It sounds like **** now..
The new cat backs are to free flowing with out a converter with those series mufflers ( Super40 )
Maybe If I had 500 plus horse they would rock. But for a mere 300 to 340 horse and no rear end gears the sound sucks at portions of full throttle.
Not sure about others brands but if you go with BBK your gonna need some O2 extenders they are about 35.00 they are for extendeding the rear O2 sensor wires
Your in Cali What I would do is go with A non-catted H-pipe .
As said before the H-pipes have a nice muscle sound.Which I didnt learn til I bought an X-pipe
I drove 95 GT in cali for years with H-pipe and no converters , flowmasters and no tailpipes and never got pulled over.Loud cars are a dime a dozen in cali.
Just remember to stick the stock catted pipe on when you go for emissions.
Non catted H-pipe would be nice!!! Read up on the mid pipe before you buy and make sure if you need or dont need the extenders

I've tried alot of stuff over the years.I do not like mac one bit.If its an H-pipe your gonna get go with the BBK.
They make some really nice quality stuff and have some good tech info on the net.
If you dont mind the sound factor an H-pipe W/O Cats would be a great addition with a nice muscle tone.
If your going to go cats on the new mid pipe go with an X-pipe.
The non catted X-pipe is even to loud / raspy for my blood.
Just keep the stock one around for the day you go to the emissions test station!!
Let us know what you end up getting I'm eager to hear about your results!!
